Pupils of the Victoria Memorial Christian School spent the eve of Christmas with other children who were at the wards of the Volta Regional Hospital and the Ho Municipal Hospital.

They distributed assorted soft drinks with Christmas cake and fruits to the children in the wards of the two hospitals, putting smiles on the faces many on the children wards.

Christmas is a season of love, sharing and peace. It has been known to be an exciting moment for children across the world. However, not all children are in good state of health to move around, enjoying every bit of the season. Some of these children are on the hospital wards because of ill health, accidents and diseases that affect children.

On their rounds at the wards of the Volta Regional Hospital, the school children met a case of a 9-year-old child suffering from Stevens-Johnson syndrome, brought from Togo without National Health Insurance.

This situation prompted the Head of the school, Paul Edem Koku to donate an undisclosed amount of money to the mother of the child to support his medical bills.

Stevens-Johnson Syndrome is a rare, serious disorder of the skin and mucous membranes. It is usually a reaction to a medication or an infection. Often, it begins with flu-like symptoms, followed by a painful red or purplish rash that spreads and blisters. Then the top layer of the affected skin dies, sheds and then heals.

According to the head of the School, the exercise is a yearly tradition for the school which prides itself in Christian values of love and sharing during the yuletide.
